The better you know yourself, the better your relationship with rest of the world – Toni Collette
Adding a new four legged family member to your life can be very daunting. It’s a life changing decision that takes time and honesty. What do you really want? You need to honestly think about the activity level you’re looking for, how many people you have in and out of your house, how long you’ll be away on a regular basis and if you have previous pets that you’ll need to make sure get along with your new family member.
However, sometimes it can still be hard to figure out what dog will be a perfect match. So, when I heard about this new site called Pawslikeme.com, I immediately had to check it out. It was quoted to me as the eHarmony site for adoptable dogs. And I thought, perfect! You are looking for a lifetime relationship, so why not make sure you’re going to get it right!
At this site, you can enter some basic info for some quick results. These questions include what your energy level is like, the type of dog you’re looking for and what your preferred type of party would be. However, if you choose to take the in depth quiz you’re faced with personality questions that ask you items like, if you prefer to be in charge, what your ideal Friday night would be, how many hours you’re at work each day and what your preferred personality type is. These question pertain to the 4 quadrants that this site uses to match you with your ideal dog. The 4 quadrants are Energy, Confidence, Focus and Independence.
Now for now, it looks like this site is newer and still gaining some momentum. There are not as many rescues on this site as say Petfinder.com. However, the concept is fantastic and hopefully it leads to more rescue sites incorporating this type of matching process into their programs.
If nothing else, take a look at the site to see what questions you should be asking yourself about what you’re looking for in a dog. This can help any rescue or shelter match you with your ideal dog. No dog is perfect, but making sure they fit in your lifestyle is a necessity when adopting. I know I personally could never have a border collie as much as I love them. I just could not provide them with the activity level they need.
Be honest with yourself and reach out to other avenues to try and figure out honestly what your lifestyle is like and what you could provide a dog. There’s a dog out there for everyone! You just have to find the right fit!
